Often confused with Kalanchoe thyrsiflora often said to be the same, but it is not. This is just as colourful, maybe even more so but has a very nice scalloped edge where Kalanchoe thyrsiflora has a smooth edge. Paddle plants can attain a height of between 12″ to 30″ inches and spread as wide as 18″ inches.

The round, large, fleshy, stalkless leaves, grayish-green in color have red margins on the edge combining to form a basal rosette.

Mature plants as they age or flower will branch. Flapjack plants grow well in partial sun to full sun. Green leaves will color up to red if the plant is placed in full sun.

When kept as a houseplant, provide plenty of indirect bright light, but avoid direct sunlight coming through a glass window. This can burn the plant.

The Flapjacks plant does well in a typical coarse succulent potting soil with sharp drainage.

It prefers potting mix that is slightly acidic with a pH value of 6.1 to 6.5; however, it can also do well in a neutral pH ranging from 6.6 to 7.3.
A small shrub with a slender, simple stem to 1.5 m tall topped by usually 4 stalkless, tough, reddish green, succulent leaves, native to southern central Madagascar, where it is found on rocky outcrops between 1000 and 2000 m. In cultivation it will do well in warm temperate climates in USDA Zones 9 and above. It also makes an excellent potted plant.
