A small, spiny tree to about 8 m (26 ft.) tall with narrow leaves that have deciduous leaflets and fragrant yellow flowers. Originally native to the region between the southern USA and northern Argentina, it has naturalized in other parts of the world and, in some places (such as Australia), is considered a major pest. Nevertheless, it does make a robust and beautiful ornamental hardy in USDA Zones 8 to 11.
