Germination of

Gaultheria depressa

Mountain Snowberry - Alpine Wintergreen, Gaultheria depressa

Gaultheria depressa

Gaultheria depressa seeds require a cold stratification period in order to germinate. Start by mixing the seeds with moistened peat moss or vermiculite, and then seal them in a plastic bag or container. Place the bag or container in the refrigerator for 2-3 months, keeping the temperature between 32-40F (0-5C). After the stratification period, sow the seeds on the surface of a well-draining soil mix and cover them lightly with a thin layer of soil. Keep the soil moist and in a bright, cool location. The seeds should germinate within 2-4 weeks.

Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.

Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here.  Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only.  Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.

It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
