Germination of
Fouquieria splendens subsp. Splendens
Coachwhip: Red coachwhip, whip snake, coachwhip snake, red racer, eastern coachwhip
Fouquieria splendens subsp. Splendens can be propagated by seeds or stem cuttings. For seed germination, the seeds should be sown in a well-draining soil mix and kept moist. It is important to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. The seeds will germinate in 1-2 weeks at temperatures of 70-75F. Stem cuttings can be taken in the summer and should be allowed to callus for a few days before planting. Place the cutting in a well-draining soil mix, keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and keep the cutting in a warm, bright location.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
