Germination of
Drosera capensis "maroon"
Cape Sundew, Red Sundew, Maroon Sundew
Drosera capensis "Maroon" is a carnivorous plant that is native to South Africa. The seeds of this plant can be germinated both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, they should be sown in a mix of peat moss and perlite or sand. The mix should be kept moist but not waterlogged, and the seeds should be lightly covered with soil. The ideal temperature range for germination is 60-75F (16-24C). Germination can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks.
Outdoors, the seeds can be sown directly into the soil after the last frost. They should be sown in a location that receives full sun and in soil that is well-draining. The soil should be kept moist but not waterlogged. The ideal temperature range for germination is 60-75F (16-24C).
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
