Chamaecyparis obtusa: Hinoki cypress seeds also require stratification. Soak the seeds in water for 24 hours, then place them in a plastic bag with a moist paper towel and refrigerate for 2-3 months. After stratification, plant the seeds in a well-draining soil mix, and keep the soil consistently moist. Germination can take 2-3 months.
