Germination of
Blechnum auratum
Golden Leaf Tree Fern: Goldie's Fern, Gold Fern, Golden Tree Fern, Cyathea dealbata
Blechnum auratum: Blechnum auratum, also known as gold fern, can be grown from spores. Start by sterilizing a small pot and filling it with a soilless growing medium, such as peat moss or sphagnum moss. Sprinkle the spores on top of the soil, and mist lightly with water. Cover the pot with a plastic bag or lid to create a humid environment, and place it in a bright, indirect location. Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. The spores should germinate in 4-6 weeks, and once they have grown into small ferns, they can be transplanted into individual pots.
Some of plants may have very have specific germination requirements that may not be covered in these general instructions.
Many seeds require pre-treatment before sowing which we try to list here when we can, but this information may not be present here. Germination times and germination temperatures are to be a guide only. Many factors can DRASTICALLY affect this.
It's always a good idea to research the specific germination requirements from multiple sources for each plant before attempting to grow them from seed.
